After 20 years in a brick and mortar office, I wanted a space that I could call my own. A space that I could customize, a space I could take with me.
I found a 1973 AVION LeGrande trailer. It’s construction and size seemed like a perfect fit for what would become my new treatment space..
After hauling it from Teton Valley Wyoming to my place in Castle Valley, in a cold snap that hit 20 below zero up north, I jumped into demolition.
I wouldn’t be needing the bathroom, and the back section of floor was rotted through, so it was easy to start ripping it down to the metal frame!
AVIONs are relatively well suited for the hot and cold of Moab, as they come with a layer of spray foam insulation between the inner and outer skins.
My main tasks were to re-wire the entire interior so that I could have 2 high efficiency heat pump air conditioning units in addition to custom lighting throughout.
I also had to strip off the white vinyl and paint on the interior walls to expose and then sand and polish the raw aluminum.
I decided to go with Eucalyptus flooring. It’s rigidity and weight really helped to firm up the floor underfoot, and it’s grain really tied the whole space together.
Cabinets with acacia chevron butcher block tops, a dishwasher to keep my cups clean.. Benches in the back with oak storage hatches.
My favorite day! What a treat to have Lizzie Jones channeling Michelangelo on my ceilings! I have had my logo of two Koi fish since I graduated and opened my Jackson office. After seeing Lizzie’s paintings in Moab, it was exciting to see her vision emerge in my office space.
It was a happy day when I finally maneuvered the AC units to the roof and wired them up. Daytime temperatures were getting unbearable!
I was lucky enough to find a new black rock guard/front awning to clean up the look of the outside. Parts are tough to find for these old gems!
Putting the final touches in with lighting. I got some help from my wife Rosie and my son Bodhi on the lettering.
Final completion, it was worth the wait!
